We had the immense privilege of attending the Ontario Chamber of Commerce 2024 Annual General Meeting last month (April 27-29), where we joined peers from chambers across the province to engage in connection, learning, collaboration, and of course, participate in the vital yearly Policy Resolutions Debate.
The OCC AGM is one of the most significant opportunities for chamber business leaders from across the province to come together to network, debate policy issues important to the Ontario business community, and shape the OCC advocacy agenda for the year ahead. In addition to welcoming the 2024-2025 Board of Directors and working on the upcoming advocacy agenda, there is also celebration of the Ontario Chamber Network’s success and contributions to our respective communities.
We’re happy to share a snapshot of the event!
Thursday, April 25: Timmins Host Night
The Timmins Chamber and the City of Timmins extended a warm welcome to chamber delegates with a red carpet reception, followed by a lively Host Night at the Timmins Museum. We enjoyed live local music, donned Miners’ Safety Hats, and even had the opportunity of Geode Smashing. Can you see our Executive Director Rebecca in the Timmins sign??
Friday, April 26:AGM & Convention
The AGM & Convention unfolded amidst the amazing backdrop of Cedar Meadows, which offered views of wolves in the wildlife sanctuary. All attendees engaged with speakers and panels, including OCC CEO & President Daniel Tisch, Minister of Mines and local MPP Hon. George Pirie, Mayor of Timmins Michelle Boileau, and Mattagami First Nation Chief Jennifer Constant. In a poignant moment of Economic Reconciliation, participants contributed to the Quilts for Survivors initiative by sewing squares, resulting in significant support for the local Not-for-Profit enterprise.
Saturday, April 27: Policy Resolutions Debate
The highlight of the event was the Policy Resolutions Debate, where the focus of the Ontario Chamber’s advocacy efforts for the next 12 months and beyond was determined. Also representing the Lincoln Chamber, we ensured West Niagara’s voice was heard throughout the discussions. As a memorable finale, we even encountered a true north experience, spotting a moose on the drive home!
The Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting always provides invaluable opportunities for networking, knowledge-sharing, and contributing to the collective advocacy efforts that shape the future of businesses across the province, and therefore within our direct community. We are excited to to carry forward the impactful insights and connections gained at this event for the benefit of our members and community.
HUGE thanks to the Timmins Chamber, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, our colleagues from chambers across Ontario, and the following chambers in particular for making the AGM & Convention an incredibly rewarding experience:
- Sault Ste Marie Chamber
- Port Hope & District
- Norwich Chamber
- Georgina Chamber
- Orillia Chamber
- Belleville Chamber
- Barrie Chamber
We can’t wait to gather again next year!
