How We Advocate

Approach and Scope
At the Grimsby & District Chamber of Commerce, our advocacy work strengthens the local business environment and helps shape a thriving, competitive economy. We focus on issues that affect how businesses operate, grow, hire, and contribute to community prosperity. We engage on issues that:
- Align with our mission
- Reflect the shared priorities of our members
- Have the potential to positively influence the broader business climate
Our advocacy takes many forms, from behind-the-scenes conversations and government
relations, to formal submissions and public advocacy. When appropriate, we collaborate with the
Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to amplify the voice of
local businesses.
How We Evaluate Issues
Before taking action, each issue is assessed for relevance, timing, potential impact, and
alignment with our goals. We listen closely to member feedback and lend our voice only where it
can make a meaningful difference.
Advocacy Assessment Framework
To ensure consistent, strategic decision-making, we evaluate potential advocacy issues using the
following principles:
Business Relevance
We focus on issues that matter to how you operate, grow, and stay competitive.
Alignment with Chamber Mission
We support actions that strengthen the local economy and improve the business environment.
Meaningful Influence
We engage when the Chamber has a meaningful role to play at the municipal, provincial, or federal level.
Urgency & Timing
We act when our involvement can help shape decisions and outcomes.
Member Consensus → Change to Member Priorities
We focus our advocacy efforts on issues that align with the collective concerns of the business
community.
Potential Impact
We prioritize issues that can create real, long-term benefits for businesses.
Resource Availability → Change to Preparedness & Capacity
We engage fully only when we have the resources and expertise to advocate effectively.
