Thank you to everyone who joined us last night at the Business After 5, co-hosted by the Grimsby Public Art Gallery and Grimsby Public Library! It may have been cold and snowy outside, but it was a lovely evening to learn more about the services our hosts offer, while engaging with our members, guests, and even Mayor Jeff Jordan and Councillors Randy Vaine and Dave Kadwell! What better way to connect with officials and community leaders than at cornerstone institutions, like the library and art gallery?
Our hosts gave insightful tours of their facilities, and highlighted some key happenings in their organizations. The library offers modern, forward-looking services and technology, including two 3D printers, vast digital catalogues, a green screen, and smart-device courses. Of course, that’s all in addition to classic library offerings of books, DVDs, computers, printers, and a cozy place to read in front of the fireplace! Interestingly, if you or a loved one has mobility issues that prevent you from going to the library, they will curate a reading list tailored to your preferences and deliver it to you!
The library currently has a vacancy on their board, so please reach out to them if you are interested in helping shape the library’s future! Additionally, the library welcomes community partnerships and if there is a program, collection, or service that the library could offer to assist community business, they would love to hear about it. Contact Kathryn Drury, CEO and Chief Librarian if you’re interested in forming a partnership.
The art gallery tour offered an insider’s view into their role of “preserving the visual history of our community.” Their large permanent, collection kept in “the vault”, consists of over 2,000 art pieces crafted by local artists, including some portraits of Grimsby’s founding families! Currently, the gallery is exhibiting vivid/en direct by Paul Walty, a moving experience that draws inspiration from Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Manga, and other styles. Be sure to check out the gallery’s other upcoming exhibits that feature local, regional, and national artists.
The gallery has their primary annual fundraiser, the All You Need Is Love Fundraising Auction, happening on March 28! Tickets are on sale now!
Thank you again to our hosts for providing a warm place for our members to mingle and share some refreshments!
Don’t forget that our Annual General Meeting is coming up quickly on March 24! Nominations are open for five (5) Board of Directors positions, and yes, you can self-nominate!
